City Administrator Eugene Dilbeck announced the hiring of Steve Walensky
as Cassville’s Public Works Director, effective January 1, 2011.
Several applications and interviews were conducted over the past months
prior to the selection of Walensky.
“Steve’s corporate and high
tech back ground offer the experiences and skills the City needs at this
time,” said Dilbeck. “Steve’s credentials are impressive. He’s worked
for JC Penney in Kansas City, MO and Dallas, TX; VISA International in
San Francisco, CA; Sprint headquarters in Kansas City, MO; First Data
Corp in Omaha, NE; and Alliance Data Systems in Dallas.”
Walensky and wife Cindy are local business owners. They purchased and remodeled the Royal W Resort on Highway 112 in 2007.
“We
selected the Cassville area to live and run our business because it had
everything we were looking for,” said Walensky. “From climate to the
folks who live here, Cassville continues to exceed our expectations. I
am excited to take this role on and apply my background to contribute to
the City’s future. The resort is at a place where Cindy is excited to
run the daily operations.”
Walensky’s responsibilities as Public
Works Director, under the direction of the City Administrator, will be
to oversee construction and maintenance of all City infrastructure,
engineering functions including but not limited to repair, care and
maintenance of all public streets, alleys, and traffic ways; water
storage and distribution system; sanitary sewer collection system; storm
water collection system; public parks; municipal airport facilities;
all associated equipment, vehicles and buildings; and project management
administration of contracts.
“I became very interested in
Cassville’s potential and future when I served on the Master Plan
Committee in 2009,” said Walensky. “A large part of Cassville’s positive
quality of life is tied to the city’s public works area.”
Walensky’s
education includes an Executive Masters of Business Administration from
Rockhurst College, Kansas City, MO. He also honorably served his
country for six years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The City is helping citizens dispose of their live Christmas trees quickly and easily. Cassville’s Yard Waste Disposal Site will be open additional days the next week for tree and other yard waste disposal. The site will be open between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm on
Thursday, December 30, 2010 and then four days: Monday, January 3, through Thursday, January 6, 2011.
The site will be closed for the New Year holiday between Friday, December 31 and Sunday, January 2, 2011.
Christmas tree trunks must be less than 4 inches in diameter and be bare of decorations and tree stands.
